Teacher Tips and Links
When I first started teaching, the Internet was my new best friend. I discovered there were numerous terrific organisations and individuals, all dedicated to teaching English and Language Arts. On this page you'll find some of the best that will help you integrate ICT into your classroom.
Useful Links...
Edhelper.com - This site is a colourful site that provides materials useful to teachers from NSW Stage 1-5 (Infants to High School). While it is an American site, and some of the activities (such as comprehension handouts) are based on American content, there are also complete units of reading activities on novels and plays commonly taught here in Australia. There are also worksheets on sight words, spelling, handwriting and phonics, for beginning readers. Teachers can even build their own word puzzles based on class vocabulary lists. This site is by SUBSCRIPTION only.
Enotes.com - Enotes.com primarily focuses on providing high quality literature study guides, but it does also feature lesson plans and discussions between teachers and students. It claims to offer more than 3000 study guides, and covers many novels, plays and poems associated with the canon of Western English literature, along with some more contemporary texts. The study guides are wordy, but extensive. This is also a SUBSCRIPTION service.
Quia.com - Quia is another SUBSCRIPTION website that offers a range of options for teachers of all subjects. Here, teachers can create an online classroom and prepare a variety of interactive learning activities based on class work. Quia also has the ability to conduct and grade online quizzes based on work set by the teacher. There are also some teaching resources that are available without subscription.
ReadWriteThink - This non-profit site provides a vast array of high quality literacy teaching resources, including lesson plans, handouts and interactive activities. Grades K-12 are catered for. In addition, it has a section for after-school activities, including tips and advice for parents, along with a variety of fun games and learning activities. It is completely FREE for use by educators.
Teachit.co.uk - This site is designed for British teachers, but there are loads of resources that can be used by any English/Language Arts teacher. On this site you will find units of work, lesson plans, handouts, various files that can be downloaded and adapted and a variety of interactive games. It has a FREE and SUBSCRIPTION level of service, but even registering for the free service is worthwhile.
Trackstar.4.teachers.org- Trackstar.4.teachers is one of the family of teaching tools offered by http://www.4teachers.org. Trackstar allows teachers to create and store online lessons.
