Following are some useful sites that explore the life and times of William Shakespeare.

  • Absolute Shakespeare - This is a superb site, albeit with a heavy use of text. Here you will find background information on Shakespeare's life, his plays, sonnets, quotes, film adaptations, Shakespearean trivia and basic summaries of some of his major works.
  • The Folger Shakespeare Library includes resources for both teachers and students. Take a look at some of the interactive activities for some educational fun!
  • Shakespeare Resource Centre
  • Internet Shakespeare Editions - This site provides detailed background information on the social and historical context of Shakespeare's works, including contemporary beliefs, politics and society. It also includes information on Elizabethan language, the sources of Shakespeare's work, as well as extensive notes on many of his plays.
